Nimbus is proud to work with the best in the business and are always excited to hear about the success of our friends in the wider music community. We are very proud of our friend, Chin Injeti on his two recent Grammy nominations!
The choral vocals for Aloe Blacc‘s “I’m The Man” (from Lift Your Spirit, up for best R&B album) were recorded at our satellite campus, The Farm Studios, owned and operated by Nimbus co-founder GGGarth Richardson.
Nimbus alumnus Sam Woywitka was on hand during the recording and had the opportunity to witness a master producer at work. Just one of the amazing opportunities given to Nimbus students!
Chin reflects on the day of recording:
“That day was pure magic with the help of Nimbus and some amazing musicians, including The Boom Booms and Tonye Aganaba, we created some incredible moments so amazing that the song has been in commercial after commercial. It gave such an amazing, positive message that is so needed for this time. The Grammy nomination is just icing on the cake. I am truly blessed.”
Chin is one of the minds behind our Beats & Urban Music Production program and regularly guest lectures at Nimbus. He has also collaborated with Nimbus alumni on their own music projects.
And it’s not just Chin who thought the day of recording for “I’m The Man” was magical.
Another friend of Nimbus, Tonye Aganaba, has lent her voice to many Nimbus projects. She remembers the day of recording with Chin Injeti at The Farm very fondly:
“I was playing a gig at The Butcher and Bullock and literally moments after I finished, The Boom Booms pulled up outside in their van and kidnapped me to the studio for a three hour session with some of my favourite singers in the city!”
She smiles. “When we walked into the live room at The Farm it was literally a who’s who of Vancouver’s up and coming R&B/Soul scene.”
“Chin was a master – directing us to get the best performance out of the group. After the session was over, we sat around in the living room and each of us played a song and it was BEAUTIFUL. So amazing to hear the talents of each of the musicians that were gathered there. Chin celebrated each and everyone of us that night. What a blessing to be included on this album.”
Chin is up for two Grammys in 2015: best R&B Album and best Rap album (Eminem for The Marshall Mathers LP2). Chin will be teaching a guest lecture for our BUMP students later this week.
Huge congratulations to Chin Injeti and Aloe Blacc, and to Tonye Aganaba and The Boom Booms for their part on a Grammy nominated album!
